About Dr Catherine Edwards
Clinical Neuropsychology is a specialist branch of Clinical Psychology. It focuses on the way the brain and nervous system affect how we function on a daily basis. Neuropsychologists use assessments of cognitive abilities – for example memory, concentration and language skills - to explore the impact of neurological conditions.
This understanding can help the person and their family to make sense of and find ways of living with their condition. The outcome of assessments can also be helpful in identifying the cause of a person’s difficulties alongside other medical investigations.
Dr Catherine Edwards is a Clinical Neuropsychologist with 18 years of experience working with clients with neurological illnesses and mental health difficulties. Catherine has experience working in NHS services including older people’s mental health, stroke rehabilitation, dementia diagnostic assessment, inpatient neurological rehabilitation, community brain injury rehabilitation and neuropsychology outpatient clinics. This has enabled her to develop skills in neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation and brief psychological therapy focused on adjustment to neurological conditions.
She has experience of working with clients with a range of neurological disorders including:
Traumatic brain injury (TBI)
Subarachnoid Haemorrhage (SAH)
Hypoxic Brain Injury
Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
Functional Neurological Disorders.
Catherine has also completed the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QICN). This enables inclusion on the British Psychological Society Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists which is the gold standard for clinicians working in neuropsychology and provides assurance of an individual’s level of skills.
