About Dr Pete Walpole (Taylored Psychology)

I work in the NHS as a Principal Clinical Neuropsychologist and am also:

  • a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS),
  • a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council,
  • a Full Practitioner Member of the BPS's Division of Neuropsychology,
  • a BPS approved supervisor for the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN) (Adult).

I've been working clinically for 25 years and have delivered training, consultation and supervision throughout this time. After finishing my undergraduate degree in Psychology in 1993 my early career, during which I trained as a psychodynamic therapist, was in the addictions field.

I then completed my doctoral Clinical Psychology training between 2002 and 2005 and on graduating developed an interest in diagnostic neuropsychology via working with older people with mental health problems, dementias, or both.

Since 2010 I have worked in a dedicated NHS neuropsychology department with adults of all ages, initially in diagnostics and more recently with people undergoing neurosurgery, and I secured my QiCN in 2014.

I teach regularly on training programmes for psychologists and medics and supervise both within and without the NHS. Problems with cognition/thinking skills can result from traumatic brain injury and conditions such as dementia, as well as from psychological strain.

I offer direct input to patients and their families, both around establishing a diagnosis and the uncertainty that can surround this, and also with regard to the management of established problems. I aim to integrate neuropsychological expertise with an empathic and respectful approach in order to help people understand the experiences they and others are having.

I also offer supervision and consultancy to professionals working with people with cognitive problems relating to neurological and other causes.
