Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing developed over thousands of years as part of the traditional medicine of China, Japan and other Eastern countries. We are now happy to be able to provide Acupuncture to the people of Sheffield and South Yorkshire from our Sheffield based centre.
Acupuncture aims to improve the total wellbeing of the patient on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.
According to Chinese Philosophy our health is dependent on the body's motivating energy - known as Qi - moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of channels beneath the skin. Qi is made up of equal and opposite qualities called Yin and Yang, when these are not balanced disease may result. By inserting fine needles into the channels of energy your acupuncturist can help you to restore natural balance, by stimulating your body's own healing response.
Acupuncture in Sheffield
What to expect in your first appointment
During the first consultation, the practitioner will determine the nature of the patient's mind/body by careful questioning and observation. During acupuncture treatment, fine needles will then be either inserted for a second or two or left in place for up to 20 or 30 minutes, depending on the effect required. During this time there may be a heavy sensation in the limbs and a pleasant feeling of relaxation.
Acupuncture may have some benefit for people with the following conditions:
- Sports injuries
- Hay fever
- High blood pressure
- Period problems
- Pregnancy management or delivery.
- Smoking addiction
Acupuncture can be safely adapted to treat anyone of all ages including babies who can be treated by using pressure rather than needles. Acupuncture can be combined with conventional medicine and Western drug therapy.
If you would like to know more then why not arrange a free 15 minute chat with Vivienne Outram, a highly trained and experienced Sheffield acupuncture and Chinese herbal mediicine practitioner.
