Focussed Mindfulness
Focussed mindfulness (FM) is a deep, direct and non-sectarian practice which leads to a more peaceful perspective on life, relationships and work. In FM the open, non-judging attention characteristic of a mindfulness practice, is deliberately turned to a sensation in the body and then deeper to explore any feeling at its core. This exploration invites memories of a physical or
emotional trauma, often buried in the unconscious, to become conscious and then processes are used to address and heal it, leaving in its place a sense of peaceful acceptance. With repeated practice this state of peaceful acceptance is accessed more and more readily and it begins to affect the practitioner's way of being.

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy(MBCT) grew out of the Mindfulness Stress Reduction Programme (MBSR) developed at the University of Massachusetts by John Kabbatt Zin. The UK National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) has endorsed MBCT as an effective treatment for depression and for prevention of relapse. Research has shown that people who have been clinically depressed 3 or more times (sometimes for twenty years or more) find that learning mindfulness skills helps to reduce considerably their chances that depression will return.
